Several Sierra sites are near spectacular views. "Placer Co. Site #1" is located at over 6,000 feet elevation, near the edge of the American River Canyon. The river is 3,000 feet below the glyphs. The location of this particular site has a very spiritual feeling to it. Since the rock art is not near the group's occupation area, the ancient Indians may have come to this site because it was a special place for them.
